MARY MOTHER OF GOD
[Our Lady of the Southern Cross – Mother & Child by P. Newton]
FAITH AND THE NEW YEAR
How quickly time passes! Look at a baby just born in 2016: he or she, at age 84, will see in the New Year at the turn of the century 2100. The rest of us? ‘Pushing up daisies’ by then.
So how can I live 2017 as perfectly as if it is my very last year? – Every day, use prayer, and consciously aim to do God’s will!
Through the year, in the foyer of St Mary’s, on the parish In Memoriam Board, we see posted the names of hundreds of parishioners who have died in the past 100 years; the lists change each month to display names during the month of their anniversary. Also, after each funeral, another familiar face is added to the board below the “Recently Deceased”.
It takes little imagination, and is a sobering NY thought, to ask: When will my face appear here? Will I be remembered in the parish as a joyful faith-filled person who helped others along life’s bumpy, winding track? I hope so.
New Year is a time for joy, and for reflection, to review life in the light that when New Year 2018 arrives, there will likely be another twenty of our parishioners added to the In Memoriam lists, and I could well be, happily, among them.
Mary, the Mother of God, wishes all that is best for us, especially whatever will strengthen and develop our faith in Jesus in 2017.
Mary and Joseph helped Jesus prepare well for his public ministry. Their faith was his consolation in many situations. Let their faith be your consolation and strength as you head into 2017, praising God heart and soul.
A HAPPY AND SAFE
NEW YEAR TO ALL!!
