GRACES OF THE ROSARY
According to the Popes
- Sinners are forgiven
- Thirsty souls are satisfied
- Those who are bound see their chains broken
- Those who weep find joy
- Those who are tempted find peace
- The poor receive help
- The religious are reformed
- The ignorant are instructed
- The living triumph over decadence
- The dead are relieved by way of suffrage
These are all very good reasons to start, or to continue praying your rosary each day.
NOVEMBER = HOLY SOULS’ MONTH
- “The dead are relieved by way of suffrage”
If you are praying your Rosary each day, or even once a week, you are already helping the Holy Souls in Purgatory – especially any of your own deceased relatives who may still be delayed by their sins on the way to the Father’s House. Love, filial love, sibling love, even friendships’ love should impel us to pray often for those departed whom we love.
Say the prayer prayed at the end of each decade: “O my Jesus, forgive us our sins. Save us from the fires of Hell, and bring all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of thy mercy.”
It asks Jesus to have mercy on the holy souls in Purgatory – including your own relatives.
Also, it is worth repeating here the story of St Padre Pio’s answer to a lady who objected that it wasn’t necessary for him to say a Mass for his mother who had died many years previously: “Father, surely your mother is already in heaven by now!” “Ah yes!” replied Padre Pio, “That is because God knew I was going to say this Mass for her.”
Even if they died years ago, our relatives, parents, siblings, friends, are still in our hearts and are always deserving of a loving mention in our prayers.
Moreover, we can go further and enter their names in the Memorial Book that is placed at the front of the church (near the rt-hand door) all through November, so that Father Paul can include them in the intentions of the Masses said during November.
Pray often for your dear departed. Our Lady has said to Ivanka, one of the visionaries at Medjugorje in 1982, that when we pray for our loved ones in Purgatory, they can see us praying for them at that very moment. What an inspiring thought! Do it often, and not only during November. Show them your love and they will never forget you at that precious moment when God calls you from this life….
“May their souls, and the souls of all the faithful departed, rest in peace. Amen.”
