Bulletin 9th Oct 2016 – 28th Sun. in OT – Rosary Month

What a blessing for Australia that the Bishops are calling for a month of prayer and fasting for marriage! The battle for marriage continues in Australia. Reading mainstream media one is lead to believe that natural marriage will be swept aside. This has not happened in many countries despite heated public and parliamentary debate. Both Croatia and Austria are holding the line on marriage. These countries are never mentioned in the media.

In Australia there is a suppression of the conservative view of marriage. With so much working against marriage and family what can we do but pray! This week Pope Francis warned: “There is a global war out to destroy marriage.”

October is the month of the holy rosary. During this month, which the Church has chosen to devote to the rosary, we who know and love the rosary need to reflect on the rosary more each day. The rosary is the prayer in which Mary takes us by the hand and shows us the joys and sorrows of the life she shared with Her son, Jesus. It is the prayer, “par excellence”, that is most loved by Our Blessed Mother.

As you say the rosary this month, make an effort to say it with renewed devotion and care. Each of the 53 “Hail Marys” contained in a single rosary contain the “angelic salutation” spoken to Mary at the Annunciation. These words, “Hail Mary…” deeply honour the woman who was to become the Mother of God, and “blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.”  We conclude the Hail Mary with a request to Mary to “…pray for us now and at the hour of our death.” We need to ask Mary to keep on praying for her children who keep on falling into sin!

Pray the rosary in October, knowing that this is the weapon that Mary asked us to use to defeat evil. The 7th of October is the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, a feast in celebration of the battle of Lepanto in 1571.

The 13th of October in 2016 is the 99th anniversary of the miracle of the sun “dancing” at Fatima. This miracle was a sign for all that Mary cares for her children. At Fatima she asked us to pray the rosary and reminded us that with prayer and fasting we can change the course of worldly affairs. “I am the Lady of the Rosary. Continue to pray the rosary every day. The war is going to end, and the soldiers will soon return to their homes.” (Mary to Lucia. October 13 1917)

…Are you a Rosary regular? Sitting at home, walking, driving – all good opportunities to pray the Rosary, especially for marriage in Australia this month.
