ST MARY’S CHOIRS
It is difficult to imagine Sunday Masses without music, and it is in gratitude to the musicians, choir directors and choristers that a short tribute is paid here.
Corowa was blessed for many years with people of singular musical talent and their joy and enthusiasm flowed into Sunday Masses.
The choir directors and organists whom we have been able to name are noted with deep appreciation: Monica Stoll, Baron Lethbridge, Patricia Plunkett, Carmen O’Donoghue, Christine Byrne, Louise Clohessy, and Judy McNamara for guitar accompaniment for occasional Masses.
Fr McGrath, Sr Jean Murray RSM, and all past and present choir members are acknowledged for their important contribution to the liturgy of St Mary’s over many years.
Catholics know – and appreciate – that there are unlimited hours of musical training, practice with choirs, and careful selection of appropriate hymns and songs behind every Mass.
All parish choirs and their leaders are deserving of the prayers and gratitude of those who attend Sunday Masses. Of course, the best sign of appreciation is when the congregation joins heart, soul and voice in the chosen hymns and songs.
In recent years, Corowa suffered a loss of musicians and choir leaders, but a faithful remnant of choir members are persevering with CD accompaniment until another organist arrives.
