Bulletin 31.05.2015 – Trinity Sunday

#2 Trinity - after Rublev

Icon – After style of Rublev (15th Cent.)

God is Family. The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are the one and only Divine Family. All Three are one God; all Three are Divine; all Three are all-wise, all-knowing, all-seeing, all-powerful, all-loving, from all eternity to all eternity – no beginning, no end. To our feeble human minds – clever as we might claim to be – we cannot grasp even one iota of the infinite nature of God; but, simply, we can say God is a Divine Family.

So, why do we celebrate “Holy Trinity” when the mystery seems to demand we remain mute? – Ans: To celebrate God’s glory which we are called to share.

I believe in God the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth”…and of me too! The Father has seen – before he created us – the infinite beauty of our soul when it would become the temple of the Holy Spirit and a member of the Body of Christ. Therefore, out of infinite love, He created us – fit to be a temple fit for all three Divine Persons. How awesome!

I believe “in Jesus Christ His Only Son, our Lord, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered.., was crucified, died, was buried, rose from the dead, and will come to judge the living and the dead.”

God the Son we have put to death by sin. He came to save us; but we rejected Him and subjected Him to the worst possible death. Yet He loves us and forgives us, if we will but turn to embrace Him. The Saviour longs to be united with us, to be our loving Shepherd to protect us against all attacks from the Evil One. “The Lord is my light and my salvation” sang the Psalmist – even before Jesus came. How much more should we acclaim Him!

“I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son…” (Nicene Creed). At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came upon the believers and remains the Fire of faith within the Church uniting us through baptism and enabling us to call out “Abba! Father!” to God.

This feast is integral to everything in creation, and to everything about myself, my past, my present and my future. I cannot exist without God; I cannot know Him without His grace; I cannot love Him without Jesus’ saving work and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

My best and heartfelt response must surely be to praise the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit by joining heart and soul with the offering that Jesus makes for us and with us in the Mass. .. And privately, to pray often every day of my life: “Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.”

The Eucharist, according to Monsignor Ronald Knox is “a window into eternity” – into the Trinity. When we gaze upon the sacred Host, either at Mass, or in adoration time in the Monstrance, we gaze upon infinite Love, upon the Face of God become flesh, become Bread.

As we begin Monthly Adoration for our parish next Sunday, make a special effort to embrace the Lord by joining others in adoration in Our Lady’s chapel. Gaze upon infinite Love and have the Divine Fire stirred again in the depths of your soul.

We aim to be adoring God for all eternity; how good it is to have time – even in this life – to begin our loving praise!
